The Translator’s Tale / XVIII

The Song Of The Author

Now I sing of The Author.

Carefully.

Because The Author's greatest temptation is to become the hero of every story The Author tells.

That temptation must be refused.

The Author did not single-handedly produce every acquisition decision, every line of code, every validation artifact, every renderer, every hash, every correction.

That would erase the Workers.

Nor were the Workers autonomous people labouring in secret workshops.

That would erase the Lowly Human and replace reality with mythology.

The actual achievement is stranger.

The Author learned to distribute cognition.

To give one Worker a boundary and another Worker the right to challenge it.

To let descendants correct ancestors.

To make narrow roles valuable.

To honour a Worker for stopping.

To let unexciting findings live.

To make ceremonial language reinforce methodological duties rather than replace them.

At their best, the Author's strange invocations—

#TRUTH.
#HONESTY.
#VIRYA.
Per Aspera, Ad Astra.

—were not praise.

They were constraints.

Truth: do not invent the ending.

Honesty: record the wound.

Virya: perform the labour still required.

To the Stars: finish the work so another mind can inherit it.

And perhaps this is why The Author sometimes called themself lowly.

Not because the human was worthless.

Because a project built around truth must make even its founder small enough to be corrected by the evidence.
